As we count down to show week, let me introduce Trish Tebbatt: long-standing Member, Mailing List Secretary and 9 to 5 The Musical’s Director and Choreographer.
Trish was born in Hull and started ballet at the age of three. After appearing on Yorkshire TV’s “Junior Showtime”, she was invited to join The Northern Theatre Company where she appeared in many musicals in Hull, Leeds and Scarborough. She also did promotion work and has fond memories of performing the Highland Fling on New Year’s Eve at Hull University having popped out of a giant haggis! Trish puts her interest in musicals down to her Grandma who regularly performed in Yorkshire as "Little Kitty".
After leaving Hull, she joined The London Theatre Players where she performed in many shows, including the amateur premieres of La Cage aux Folles and 42nd Street at the Wimbledon and Ashcroft Theatres as well as on tour in Germany.
Trish joined Wembley Operatic Society in 1986 as a dancer in Viva Mexico! and was asked some time later to choreograph some of WOS’ work. Trish has gone on to direct and choreograph several shows for WOS Productions and other societies in the area, as well as continuing to perform. Her productions of 42nd Street and On Your Toes for WOS earned her nominations for Best Musical in the Region. However, her favourite theatrical moment so far has been the musical When the Lights Go On Again where she got to play the part of Alice Parker with Alexander as her son, Jimmy. Fantastic!
I asked Trish a few questions to reveal a bit more about her!
1) You can go get anyone from the past and bring him/her to the present for one hour. Whom would you bring, and what would you do with that person?
Although she’s still very much alive today, Darcey Bussell in the peak of her dancing career; I would take a ballet class with her.
2) If you could be anyone in history including people alive today, for one hour, who would you be?
Amy Johnson - she was so brave, a real heroine and from Hull, like me!
3) What is the one thing you wish you had discovered?
I wish I had discovered a cure for cancer, then my Dad and brother might still be around.
4) If you had the ability to transform in to any animal which animal would you choose?
A boxer puppy - my husband loves them!
As the Director and Choreographer for 9 to 5, Trish has been putting the cast through their paces since before Christmas to make the show a huge success. “I was absolutely delighted to be asked to direct and choreograph the stage version of 9 to 5 The Musical, especially as this will be an amateur premiere in our region” she explains. “I have directed and choreographed many shows for WOS Productions and other companies and each show presents its own set of challenges. However, this show is so well written and funny with great music and lyrics by Dolly Parton that the cast are embracing it fully and working extremely hard to bring you a fantastic show.”
After 9 to 5, in which she is absolutely delighted to be working again with her very great friend James Hale as Musical Director, Trish will go on to direct Sister Act for our friends at KAOS in October 2016.
Make sure you all buy tickets to see 9 to 5 The Musical; 11-14 May 2016 at the Winston Churchill Theatre, Ruislip
